Brown Sugar

Evanston, US

Brown Sugar was founded in 1999 by two Northwestern students looking to embrace their South Asian roots while performing a style of music unique to the West. A cappella music is performed completely without instruments – the members of the group are responsible for everything from the background music to the percussion to the vocals themselves. The amalgamation of the rich, intricate melodies of South Asian music and the demands of a cappella is what makes Brown Sugar one of Northwestern’s and the nation’s favorite a cappella groups. Brown Sugar boasts a substantial repertoire ranging from Bollywood classics to Hindi pop to American R&B and rock music. The group performs around the Chicagoland area and across the country.
